You need to stop thinking your homepage is where everyone goes first. If you are doing it right, you will have people finding all of your web pages on google.
You need to understand the psychology of the people coming to your website and the buying stage they are at (Awareness, Consideration or Decision) and understand the type of content you need to create for each stage.
3.21 – Stop potential clients from clicking off your website – Create call to actions
If you are writing an article about a subject give the reader more value by offering them something in exchange for their contact details. An offer could be an eBook or free worksheet etc. Call to actions make it easy for your website visitors to understand the next step and to engage further with your business and the content you are providing.

When you create content over a long period of time something amazing starts to happen. As you increase the quantity of content on your website, the number of traffic and potential leads to your website will also increase.
